Elastane

synthetic

Also known as: Spandex, Lycra, Elasthan, Élasthanne

Highly elastic synthetic fibre. Adds stretch and shape retention to fabrics.

About Elastane

Elastane (also known as spandex or Lycra, a DuPont brand name) is a synthetic fibre known for its exceptional elasticity. It can be stretched up to 600% of its original length and return to its original shape. Elastane is rarely used alone but is blended with other fibres (typically 2-20%) to add stretch and shape retention to garments. It is essential in sportswear, swimwear, underwear, and form-fitting clothing.
