What Markings Does Electronics Need for the EU?

If you're selling electronics in the EU, you need to understand which markings are required and why.

CE marking is mandatory for most electronics. It covers safety, EMC (electromagnetic compatibility), and radio equipment requirements.

RoHS compliance is required for electrical and electronic equipment. It restricts hazardous substances like lead and mercury. RoHS compliance is typically included in the CE Declaration of Conformity.

WEEE symbol (crossed-out wheeled bin) must be on the product or packaging to indicate it should not be disposed of in regular household waste.

Battery marking is required if the product contains batteries — the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol plus the chemical symbol of any hazardous metals.
