No Entry

Circular red sign prohibiting entry to a road or area.

Description

The no-entry sign is a regulatory traffic sign prohibiting vehicles from entering a road, lane, or area. It consists of a red circle with a white horizontal bar. The sign is used for one-way streets (to prevent wrong-way entry), restricted areas, pedestrian zones, and other locations where vehicle entry is prohibited. The Vienna Convention on Road Signs and Signals (1968) standardized this sign as B2 in the international system.

Origin & Cultural Context

The no-entry sign in its current form was standardized by the Vienna Convention on Road Signs and Signals in 1968, though similar prohibition signs existed earlier in European countries.
