Kuidas elektri hind kujuneb

What is the exchange price?

The exchange price (spot price) is the wholesale electricity price set on the Nord Pool exchange every hour. It fluctuates based on supply (wind, solar, hydro, nuclear) and demand (weather, time of day, season).

Why do prices change every hour?

Electricity cannot be stored easily. When production exceeds demand, prices fall — sometimes even below zero. When demand spikes (cold mornings, calm days with no wind), prices rise sharply.

When is electricity cheapest?

Typically cheapest at night (00:00–06:00) and on windy days. Most expensive during morning (07:00–09:00) and evening (17:00–21:00) peaks, and during cold snaps in winter.

What does the price include?

The displayed price is the Nord Pool exchange price + 24% VAT. Your actual bill also includes: seller margin (0–2 ct/kWh), network fee (varies by area), excise duty, and renewable energy charge.

Exchange vs fixed contract

An exchange contract means you pay the real-time price — you can save money by shifting consumption to cheap hours. A fixed contract gives price certainty but you pay a premium for that stability. Use the calculator to compare based on your own consumption.
